As we pack up and head to the desert today to compete in my first Ironman70.3 race, I’ve been thinking back to where this all started in 2016 when I did my first triathlon of any kind, the MultiRace Tri Siesta Key olympic distance race. For those who don’t know, olympic distance is a 0.9mi swim, 40k bike and 10k run. Audrey captured an awesome vlog of the trip that has me feeling all kinds of nostalgic:
What’s incredible to me is really just how far I’ve come. Everything feels sharper than it did that day, my training more focused, my speed improved across all three disciplines, and now I’m part of the community rather than just someone trying it out for the first time!
I managed to win my age group at that race, but in all fairness, there were only two of us and I made a lot of rookie mistakes. Regardless of how I finished, it gave me the bug to keep pushing my physical limits and led me to this moment where we’re busy packing bags and loading up the car with the puppies to go racing!
I hope you all will follow along this weekend. Download the Ironman mobile app and use racer number 1927 to follow along as I race in the Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells La Quinta this Sunday!
